And We're Back!

After Sunday's slop-fest, Mother Nature decided to stop screwing around and dumped 20 inches of 4% blower powder on us over the last 24 hours. Not to mention the 12+ inches that fell Sunday night. So, Jamon and I headed to our standard high-danger area and busted out a lap of the season's best snow. This morning's awesomeness cannot be overstated.

  1. Hey Adam, Great pics as usual. Do you have any cold weather/snow shooting tips? ~Opti

  2. Well Opti, I'm just a hack compared to someone who knows what they're doing, so don't take any of this as gospel, but here's what I have for ya...

    1) Keep your camera accessible. It doesn't do you any good to carry a camera if it's buried in your pack unless you have the time (and partner-patience) to stop every time you want a photo. I use a chest pouch for skiing, so I can whip the camera out, snap a frame, and stash it without slowing the group. I do usually carry a big lens in my pack, but I only bust it out if I'm with people who are cool with taking a little extra time to get photos.

    2) Manually meter everything. I usually just use the snow and over expose by one full stop. If you leave your camera on program, all of you shots will be way too dark.

    3) Keep your camera dry.

    4) Don't be afraid to get your camera wet.

    5) Take a lot of photos, and experiment as much as possible.

    6) Don't forget that you're there to ski.
