Crash and Burn

Today just wasn't our day. A few of us came up to do a few laps on Arcylon and things happened like they often do. I rode stiff as shit and crashed on a really small jump going really fast. Price went down hard on the road gap and then blew up his front tire (after the crash was over, however that happens). And to round things out, Jen took a slapshot to the foot playing hockey and basically can't walk. Now we're re-working our four-day weekend plans since Jen can't climb.

Round and Round

Today's ride got shut down due to rain, so Jen and I grabbed Chaco and headed over to Toni and Misti's house to ride around in circles. Pretty chill afternoon, and a good opportunity to work on flash photography. The trick is to get the shot well lit without blinding the rider and causing them to crash into the camera.

Quick on Trailside

Jen and I were feeling especially lazy this afternoon, but once again didn't want to just sit on the couch and watch movies. So, we loaded up the bikes and headed to PC to run a couple laps at the Trailside Skills Park yet again. Jen's focus today was learning to get the most out of the berms so she can carry more speed through the corners and clear the table tops. Each lap was better than the last, and you really can't ask for much more than that.

Quickie in Hell

Wanting to be as lazy as possible without doing completely nothing, Jen and I decided to head up to Hellgate and do a couple pitches. It was nice and cool this far up the canyon, but there was still a bit of snow on the trail. Better than frying on south-facing LCC granite though.

Threefer of Biking

For being a lazy day, Jen and I actually got quite a bit done. We joined up with Scott for a couple laps down Arcylon, where Scott hit his first ever ladder drop and Jen fell in love with her new bike. Then we went over to the new Trailside Skills Park to check it out for the first time. After a couple laps and some drop-sessions up there, we went down to Jordan and Carla's place for a BBQ and a few laps on their beautifully sculpted pump track. Despite Jordan's decision half way through the evening to take the brakes off the pump track bike, no one was injured all night.

Out at the Oval

Another day, another game. I can't think of anything clever to say right now, so here are the photos...

Granite

There are some things that just never get old. Among them is a nice mellow hand crack in bullet granite. Today Jen and I took Ryan and Lisa up to the School Room for some crack lessons. We got on the classically fun Bushwack Crack, which turned out to be Lisa's first crack climb. Ryan stepped up to lead it, and I found out afterward that it was something like his third trad lead ever and the first one that took place on an actual crack. Nice work man! As is standard, good times were had by all.

Earn Your Turns

After-work ride with Jen up to Flying Dog and back down again. Temps were great, dirt was tacky, and I didn't run head-on into any of the 15 people who were riding up Flying Dog. Why do people ride up that thing? I just don't get it. Either way, this trail is always a ton of fun.

More Arcylon

I have the feeling that coming up for a new post title every time I ride Arcylon is going to get really hard. Either way, I went up again with Toni, Alex, and Misti and ripped lap after lap of Northern Utah's best trail. We were so stoked to see how many riders, and how many different types of riders, were up here riding. Everyone from grape smugglers who don't get the joke in the name to DH race heads seem to love this trail. We ran into my friend Alex, who's a full-on cross country rider, and he hit his first ever freeride feature on his third lap of the day. Well done man!
