Andy and I went up to Broad's Fork so I could get pumped stupid and he could work his project. While there was no send today, he did figure out some much better beta, and I have no doubt that it's getting done on his next day up there.
During last summer's trip to the Cirque of the Unclimbables, Warren LaFave hooked us up with a completely free helicopter ride from Glacier lake in to the Cirque. To try and say thanks, I sent a little business his way (my friend Tim and his crew are headed up there Thursday) and sent along a bottle of pretty damn good scotch.
Alex, Ceci, Rick, Jess, JP, Chris, and myself all ended up in American Fork today, which was nice for me because it offered lots of photo opportunities. Temps were pretty good, and a little rain on two occasions actually helped things stay nice and crisp (as long as the climb was steep enough to stay dry). I actually sent my hard route for the day, so I guess I'm getting back into shape. Finally!
Alex and I had a quick afternoon sesh in American Fork, but since it was about 2,000% and humid as all hell, we climbed pretty much like complete and total dogshit. Well, I did anyway.
It feels so good to climb rock when the humidity isn't approaching 100% and sweat isn't pouring from by body like I sprung a leak or something. Hellgate doesn't have the cleanest rock around, but it does have some really fun routes and it's all the way at the top of LCC, so it's nice and cool even in the middle of summer. Pretty fun after-work sesh with Alex and Rick. I thought I would climb like total dogshit due to recent breaks, but I actually felt pretty strong and climbed well.
Some things never change, like the fact that a good concert by a good band is a great way to spend an afternoon. Since my back is a bit jacked and needed a couple days off, I went to Pioneer Park and watched Modest Mouse put on a hell of a show. Spitting Venom may very well be the best outside concert closing song ever.
First Crest ride of the year. Always a good time. I actually crashed on the spine for the first time since I was riding a hardtail, but it was just a step-off and not nearly as gnarly as the one to the right.
Laura and I spent three days climbing in Red River Gorge, which happens to combine my two weaknesses (endurance and performance in humid conditions) into one for a serious ass kicking. I didn't check the weather report, but I'm pretty sure it was something like 300-degrees with 2,000% humidity. It was still very worth the time to climb such cool routes in such a unique setting.
