Ben and Ed picked me up at a little after 6:00 this morning and we drove up to Big Cottonwood to see what the storm had left for us. It was still exceptionally cold (yesterday's avy report said -46F at 11,000ft.), so everyone had a big puffy jacket in their pack. We skinned up Mill D, dropped into Beartrap for a couple East-facing powder laps (a rarity), and then finished up with a lap back into Mill D for a total of just over 4000ft. Not too bad considering we're all still getting in ski shape. Now we're all off to eat turkey and replace lost calories. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Looking at the weather stations, it was -15F at the trail head, averaged about -5F most of the time we were out, and was 5F by noon.
ReplyDeleteI think ya might have been a touch overdressed, even for -5F. Impressive beard frost though.
